Lynx Announces Free Firmware Update for Mesa Desktop Thunderbolt 3 Converter/Interface with Flexible EQ, Room Tuning, and More

Lynx Studio Technology has announced a new firmware update for their acclaimed Mesa desktop-based Thunderbolt 3 audio interface and professional-quality standalone analog/digital/analog converter. The new v1.8 firmware is available now via the Lynx site at no additional cost to all owners of Mesa.

Mesa’s new v1.8 firmware provides 16 bands of parametric equalization. This is not a single 16-band EQ; there are now separate 16-band parametric EQs on outputs including Monitor Out, Phones, SPDIF Coax, and SPDIF Optical. Six different EQ shapes are available: LPF, HPF, Low-Shelf, High Shelf, and Peak. A new On/Off toggle allows users to quickly and easily A/B EQ’d and non-EQ’d output, and its filters are implemented with 64-bit floating-point precision. Using the high-quality preamps on the Mesa along with its new EQ features, users can now create a custom headphone mix with no other outside processing required.

As with the Lynx Aurora(n), the update allows Mesa to import Soundworks’ Sound ID and Room EQ Wizard speaker calibration curves. Mesa can also import headphone profiles to ensure that headphones are calibrated to their specific tonal characteristics to ensure maximum accuracy. Mesa-Remote can import headphone and other room correction profiles from SoundID, REW and AutoEQ.app.

The Lynx Mesa offers four analog inputs and two outputs for monitoring, along with dual headphone outputs with independent level controls. It provides a hi-contrast capacitive touchscreen interface — the same as in the company’s renowned Hilo 2 — making perfect for standalone use. A built-in MicroSD card slot allows Mesa to be used as a primary or backup recording device, making it useful for live/remote recording needs.

Mesa offers the same level of audio quality and transparency as the company’s acclaimed Aurora(n) interface/converter. Its combo input connectors accept Mic, Line and D.I. signals, so users can plug in directly with instruments like electric guitars, bass, and keyboards, as well as microphones, and are selectable on a per-channel basis. Its monitor outputs are on ¼” balanced TRS connectors. Designed for professional applications, Mesa also features S/PDIF coaxial I/O, with its optical port supporting both S/PDIF (2 channel) and ADAT (8 channel) formats, and also includes Word Clock in and out.

The Lynx Mesa is compatible with all Digital Audio Workstation (DAW) platforms on both Mac and Windows, including Pro Tools, Logic Pro, Ableton Live, FL Studio, Cubase, GarageBand, and more. This universal compatibility makes it ideal for music and audio creators who require flexibility in working seamlessly with multiple DAW systems.
