Topic: Lynx Two A for iMac G5? Posted: July/28/2012 at 2:02am |
|
Does anyone know if it is possible to connect a Lynx Two A card to an iMac G5, since it has no PCI slot? Is there any adaptor for Firewire or USB? Thanks

Theoretically an expansion chassis could work, but we have not found a shipping model that provides acceptable performance.

The older Magma, with the Pericom clock chip work. Also the GE Fanuc chassis, but I think the smallest they make is a 7-slot.

To be clear, the iMac has NO expansion capabilities for PCI or PCI express. There is simply NO way to use a LynxTWO-A with that computer. You would have to use a Macintosh that at least had a Thunderbolt port.

I found this thread because I have been looking for an answer to a similar query.
I have two LynxTWO cards which I love, but I need to go mobile and would hate to lose the sound I've become accustomed to.
From this thread it looks like I need to find myself an older Magma chassis with the Pericom Clock chip, with an ExpressCard interface so I can connect it to my Macbook Pro - then all should work?
Is there an easy way of knowing the Magma chassis is a Pericom unit? (model number etc)
Any advice gratefully received.

I think you would have to contact Magma about that issue. They would know what they made. Maybe they have a good serial number range that you could check on.

Thanks for the tip David. My logic is sound on the magma / lynx / pcmcia interfacing though yes?
I'll find out the serial and seek out a magma.
Best Regards
