OK, there are a few steps involved for you to do this. First off, you'll need the correct cables. You should use the Apogee Cable for the DA16x that breaks out into 8 female XLR connectors. On the Aurora use two DIGY85 or equivalent Yamaha pinout digital cables. Connect the Aurora Digital Outputs to the Apogee Inputs.
Connect a wordclock cable from the DA16X WC out to the Aurora WC In. With the Aurora, first off you will need to program your LTFW card with firmware rev 15. You can download the appropriate updater for OSX Here. After programming, Launch the ARC. From the LTFW menu set the channel mode to "16 analog + 16 digital". Now, channels 1-16 will be the Aurora Analog Outputs, and channels 17-32 will be the DA16x. When the Aurora is clocked Externally you will likely not be able to run the ARC anymore. If you need to use the ARC for hardware monitoring, then this clocking scheme might not be appropriate. If you are not routing with the ARC, just set TO ANALOG OUT and TO DIGITAL OUT to "LSLOT IN". Unless you have anything else to change from the defaults, then set the SYNC SOURCE to External and close the ARC. If you need to relaunch the ARC, disconnect the firewire cable, set the Aurora to Internal, reconnect the firewire cable, then launch ARC. Let me know if you need more help with this. |

Paul, thank you so much for this info,i really appreciate it.
I still don't understand one thing though,in this setup i presume the da16x will be connected to the computer via the x-symphony 32 pci-e card and the aurora via the firewire card at the same time?I'm also worried about latency between both units d/a.Do you think it will be ok? |

I'm sorry, I missed that your intention was to use the Symphony card. My suggestion was just to connect the DA16x directly to the Auroras AES/EBU Outputs. If you would rather use the Symphony card, just create an aggregate device in Utilities > Audio MIDI setup that combines the Aurora and Symphony. Turn off the "drift" or "Resample" option for the aggregate device. You do have to make sure that they are clock synced though (wordclock ideally). The two units will not be sample aligned, since all converters are a little different in conversion times, but the difference should only be a small number of samples. Just don't mult signals to both units and you should be fine...
