Not quite a nightmare yet, I'm running an audient asp.4816 console with the 16vt, my issues are mounting and im not sure what I have done, what I should do or what I can do. I'm going to be blunt and say I have owned a 16 a 16vt and a 8fw from you guys nearing the 10k mark of investment into your products because I love the audio quality, but I hate the fact that none of these 3 units I have owned have ever setup correctly without shots in the dark and constant power cycles with fingers crossed, after about 2 hours of tinkering I was finally able to pass some audio through the 16vt using it as the comps soundcard, then I open pts nothing, start over, a while later I get sound then it starts dropping samples crackling all over, then after a unit and mac restart, no sound again, im not a tech, I am an audio guy and before anything I need reliability. The 8fw was the.most stable unit I ever owned and that still gave me issues from time to time, I normally record at 48k with a buffer of.128, this to me is the absolute minimum settings I will use, due to quality and latency. I am running this unit with fw with a dedicated pci fw card in the mac. What can I do or should I do to make this unit stable? How can I get this thing to run smoothly without fear of sample loss? My mac is a Mac Pro quad core with 16 gigs of ram running snow Lep 10.6.8 its a clean computer with the main hd dedicated to sw and 2tb dedicated to storage. I have the ARC latest version. Help a dedicated customer write the negativity out of his experiences.

Sorry you are having troubles, but I'm afraid we will need a bit more information. You say you have an Aurora 8FW, which means it has FireWire. How are the Aurora 16 and Aurora 16VT connecting to the computer? Do you have an AES16e, LT-HD or LT-USB?
It is a bit more complicated when you have multiple digital devices, as each one must be fed the clock from the master device. This is why we need to know how the computer is connected to the Aurora, so we can give direction on how to setup the clocking. I'm assuming you are trying to run all three devices at the same time. If not, please fill us in on exactly how many devices you are running at once. |

I've suspended work in that room until I can figure this out. So any help to get this room operational would be great because my money tree stopped flowering years ago.

Sorry for the late response. With Firewire there are a number of potential causes for performance issues. Half of the wire is out of our control. Here is a list of some things that have helped others:
* Run current LTFW firmware updater (even if the firmware is already up to date) . Here is the link for the correct one. * Disable WiFI and BlueTooth * Try increasing the buffer size * If there are any other devices on the firewire bus, disconnect them so that the Aurora is the only firewire device present * Try swapping firewire cables, particularly if a cable over 10' is being used * Try restoring defaults on the Aurora (applying AC while holding down SAMPLE RATE). If nothing helps, we might want to re-evaluate the connectivity method. It is much more common in a Pro environment with a tower computer to use a PCIe card like our AES16e for the best performance, especially in a context where low-latency is necessary. |

I'll follow all your steps one by one no internet, no wifi or bluetooth are enabled. Nothing else on the fw card, nor are there any other fw devices connected. The firewire cable is a touch long prob 12ft, and unnecessarily so, its just one I had in the studio. Ill update the fw drivers change out the cable and report back.
If it helps any it starts dropping samples at any buffer at any trackcount. |

Hi,
You mentioned you have a MacPro....are there no slots available? Just curious why you are going with FireWire when you have an AES16e card... |

Why am I running FW? Because I had the FW card from my old FW8 and I was told by the salesman at sweetwater that this would pose no problem.
It ran fine since the last time I posted here, but today I went to lunch came back and the Aurora was off, there was no outage, everything is on Furman conditioners, but the unit was off, so I turned it back on and when I started working on the mixes again I started getting clicks and pops again. again.. So I've been doing the endless process of trying to trick the unit into working again so I can finish this project on schedule. I updated FW, reinstalled the drivers. Tried a new FW cable. Nothing is helping this time.

Funeral,
Its certainly possible that this LT-FW card has a problem. You might want to call in during our business hours to troubleshoot and we can issue an RMA if need be... |
