Hi,

I'd be very grateful for advice regarding aligning my Aurora 16 with Cubase 6 and an inline analogue board.

My setup:

Cubase 6 on Win 7
AES16e
Aurora 16 ADDA
Soundtracs Solitaire 32 Channels inline console

I understand that 0dBVU on the console should be equal to -16dBFS on the Aurora.

I'm very much a beginner at this and would appreciate how I physically set this up using the above i.e. signal generator in the DAW, oscillator in the console etc.

I have the tape sends/returns connected to my analogue ins/outs on the Aurora.

Thanks for your help,

Mark

Hi, Mark,

You would just want to set the Aurora TRIM level to +4. At this setting, 0 dBu coming from the Soundtracs will be -16 dBfs in the Aurora, which you verify by looking at the RECORD/PLAY screen of the Lynx Mixer.

Similarly, in the other direction, setting your DAW signal generator to -16 dBfs will show up as 0 dBu on the Soundtracs.

There is really no other setting to adjust.

Thanks Mike,

Amazingly simple - I was obviously overthinking this. Checked with console oscillator and signal generator plugin and all matches up to 0dBVU.

Just to confirm I should keep track levels at RMS of -16dBFS or less with peaks maximum of -6dBFS?

Cheers,

Mark

We like simple.  Wink

-16 or -12 would be a good level, audio being cumulative at the mix bus of course. A peak of -6 dBfs would be a nice "healthy" level as well for your tracks.
