Hello,
yesterday, I've tried to connect my CD-Player via S/PDIF directly to the AES/EBU input of the Aurora 8. After routing the signal to the analogue outs 1/2, the fader 1 on the first source tab of the analogue section in the Remote Software (via MIDI) is moved up automatically (also after moving them down manually). After disconnecting the CD-Player, the fader doesn't move anymore.
The adapter cable from AES/EBU to Chinch is self-made, 5 meters of cordial 75ohm cable with Chinch on the one side and XLR on the other (Hot from Chinch connected to Pin 2 of the XLR and Ground from Chinch connected to Pin 3 of the XLR).
Where is the fault?
Greetings from Germany,
Daniel

Daniel,
Hmmm, That does not make much sense. If you look in the Aurora Remote Control > About Aurora page, how does it say that the Aurora is connected?
I wonder if there are some random AES UB signals that are being interpreted as controls from an AES16 card. Is the attenuation audible? Do you have the XLR cold pin connected at all?

Hey,
I will look tonight what the Aurora says about the connection...
The attenuation of channel 1 is audible, channel 2 is manually adjustable witout problems! Only channel 1 has this strange behaviour!
The connectors are connected like this:
XLR:
Pin1 - nothing
Pin2 - Hot from Chinch
Pin3 - Ground from Chinch
Chinch:
Hot - Pin2 from XLR
Ground - Pin3 from XLR
Greetings, Daniel

Not sure if this is what you meant, but Pin2 (+) should eb connected to the phono plug, and Pin3 (-) should be connected to the sleeve.

Hello,
I've checked and changed the cable and now it works! Pin 2 was broken...
But now I've got a new question. The CD-Player is connected digitally to the Aurora and it works very well. But what's the matter with the digital clock? The CD-Player is enforced to be the master, the Aurora too because it is the heart of the studio. Could this be a problem at any time? Does this influent the sound quality?

Yes, this will be a problem. If the CD player cannot be a clock slave, its clock will be somewhat off from the Aurora clock, likely producing audible errors. You could slave the Aurora to the clock from its digital input when playing CDs, and Synchrolock will clean it up. This is probably your best workaround.
