Hi all,
I'm kinda new around here and in need of some help.....
I have got hold of a LynxTWO-B for trial to see if the quality is better than my MOTU 828 MKII.
I installed everything (the original floppy disk) as in the manual inserting the card first as advised. All seemed to go smoothly until I started Nuendo, it said, unable to find LynxTWO Asio Kernel Driver. Well I uninstalled the driver and started again, same thing. I then tried the new driver which is Vista compatible WMD, ( I am on WinXP PRO SP1) it went on and all seemed to go smoothly then .......the blue screen of death appeared saying "DRIVER CORRUPT MMPOOL" now I'm starting to smell something from my rear end :-)  I do tend to panic rather easily.

I installed that driver and went back to the original, same thing.
I also went into the Asio Multimedia setup page for Nuendo in hope that I could sort it from there but alas, unable to sync to card...what the hell is going on?

Any help from you pros would be greatly appreciated.  As you can see i am not really very technical so be easy with your answers and break it down for me please. If you have a step-by-step approach to a perfect Nuendo install that would be preferable I recon.

It would be good if anyone has experienced this before so you can talk me through the problem and sort it.

Many thanks in advance.

Hello,

Let's try the following steps to get a clean install:

* Go to Device Manager. Right-click the LynxTWO under Sound, Video and Game Controllers and choose "uninstall"

* Click Start > Programs > Lynx Studio Technology: Uninstall LynxTWO. If it is not there, skip to the next step

* Reboot

* When the New Hardware Wizard comes up, put it aside (but don't hit "cancel").

* Download Build 14 of the version 2 driver from:

http://www.lynxstudio.com/download.html

* Double-click L2WDM014.exe and accept the default directory of C:\Lynx

* Run the New Hardware Wizard and install the driver per these instructions:

http://www.lynxstudio.com/faq/faql2gsstep3winver2.html

* After installation, right-click on C:\Lynx\Lynxapps.inf and choose "install".

* In Nuendo, click Devices > Device Setup > VST Audio System and chose ASIO LynxTWO/L22 as the ASIO driver.

If any part of this does not work as described, let me know.

Best Regards,

Paul Erlandson

Hi Paul and thanks for the reply.
Tried that but Nuendo keeps looking for "LynxTWO asio kernel driver", what's that all about?
Can I somehow install or copy this file into the system so that Nuendo can see it?
all else seems fine with the install it's just when I try to assign the Lynx driver in the Nuendo driver setup page it comes up with that same warning..."unable to find..."
what next?
a swift reply would be appreciated as I have to give the card back to the shop soon and it would be a shame to not have heard the difference it can or cannot make to my sound.

Are you sure you are selecting "ASIO LynxTWO/L22" as the ASIO driver in Nuendo?  Please look very carefully and make sure that is the device being selected.
Thank you,

yes David, it's the only Lynx driver in the list. It just can't find this damn file..."LynxTWO asio kernel driver"
What the hell is this and surely there must be a way to manually unstert it into the location it is searching for? Have you never heard of this file before?

Paul suggested I uninstall and re-instal your 057g.exe driver which I did and seemed more stable with complete sync lock up when tested in the Steinberg multimedia setup page, syncronization passed, simulation test passed, and audio system test passed.which the new driver failed on all of these. Then went in to Nuendo driver setup and same thing..."unable to find LynxTWO ASIO kernel driver"

This is a real bummer, I will have to give the card back in a few days and if I don't resolve this issue, you will lose a potential customer, plus I was really looking forward to trying out this card to compare it with my MOTU 828 MKII (which has no driver issues)

Anyhow if Paul or yourself, or anyone else for that matter who may have an answer to resolving this missing driver problem within the next day or so, please let me know, as i say it would be a shame to have had the card in my hands and not be able to try it out.

cheers

That's a damn shame zvenx, if only you could remember that fix, it would save us a lot of trouble

Please try and cast your mind back, i really would appreciate it.

If not thanks anyway

if I had to guess. I would say it involved reflashing the current firmware.

hmmm, re flashing is out of the question since it is a loaner from a shop and brand new, they would not appreciate me tampering with the firmware. Paul seemed to think in his first reply to me that it may be a corruption in the WINXP system and that I may have to reinstall the OS....no chance just to get the Lynx working I'm afraid, too much to lose, work is ongoing at the moment and everything else works rock solid including my MOTU 828 MKII. This is just a Lynx problem!
Frankly I am not impressed so far.
Does that sound familiar to you Zvenx, did you have to do something so drastic to get yours working?

nope I am sure now, all I had to do was flash the card and restart..
if I had to reinstall the xp as much as I love lynx, it would be out of my
machine.

I am sure the newes driver only works with the newest firmware.

yeah I tried the original that came with the card on floppy then the 057g and then the new one...all the same results, Nuendo is just looking for this damn file. The best driver was the second one 057g.exe since all syncing outside of Nuendo was spot on. BUt in NUendo...well, no go!

Ah well, maybe it's just not meant to be. Perhaps I will try out Metric Halo or some other interface to get comparisons against my MOTU. It's just that with all the hype around the Lynx it would have been nice to try it out and see for myself/ But since no one seems to know what the hell is going on with this file that has suddenly landed from outer space, I should just call it a day.

I will however hold out till Monday perhaps Tuesday at a stretch in hope that Paul will find an answer to this missing file before handing it back to the store.

Any other thoughts from yourself or anyone on how I can replace this "LynxTWO asio kernel driver", please don't hesitate to get in touch, I sure would appreciate it.
cheers

If it will help motivate you further:

The Motu 828 is ok, but it does not compare with the Lynx converters.
If you can get the Lynx fired up, (I cannot really help, I use a Mac)
you will see that sonically there is no comparison, the Lynx is suprerior in
every measurable and listenable way. Stereo images are remarlably
better, the headroom seems to be better, certainly you will notice
greatere accuracy in recorded signals.

You might try searching for the missing file and noting where it resides.
There may be an issue with Nuendo.... I have noticed that I often have to
reboot Nuendo to get it to talk to all of my cards and controllers,
especially if I have made any changes.

We have had a discussion about your situation today and an excellent suggestion was made. If you are not using a User account with Administrative privileges, then the ASIO DLL file may be getting blocked. That’s the only explanation that’s at all satisfying for the fact that both driver models had the same error. Please check this and correct it if possible.

It most certainly has nothing to do with the firmware on the card.

If this does not help, please let me know.

however Paul I did have a problem that reported asio kernel earlier this year
and I am 100% sure it wasn't a rights problem.... hopefully however this will
be his problem.
